Tarantino takes pedicab in Manila floods

MANILA, Philippines - Quentin Tarantino was forced to hop into a pedicab to escape gridlock on flooded Manila streets Wednesday as he made his way to the presidential palace to receive a film award.

Tarantino’s limousine had been stuck in traffic for about 2 1/2 hours on a bridge close to Malacanang palace when Filipino filmmaker Amable “Tikoy” Aguiluz suggested they take separate pedicabs (cycle rickshaws).

About 15 minutes later, they reached a street corner near the palace gates where a car picked them up, Tarantino said.

“It was a lot of fun. It’s the way it is, I guess. … It was wild,” he told reporters. “No worries. I’ve done more serious things than that.”

Tarantino was 40 minutes late for the ceremony but 30 minutes ahead of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Pounding rain from Typhoon Sepat flooded parts of metropolitan Manila, prompting authorities to suspend classes, briefly stopping a commuter train and slowing Arroyo’s convoy.

Tarantino, director of “Pulp Fiction” and the “Kill Bill” movies, wore a traditional Filipino formal shirt and sandals.

He was handed size-13 black leather shoes because sandals and rubber shoes aren’t allowed inside the palace during presidential ceremonies, said a staff member of the National Commission on Culture and Arts.

Tarantino, 44, was among three Lifetime Achievement award winners in the 9th Cinemanila, a film festival featuring foreign and local movies.

He is writing a book about Philippine films, particularly the horror and action movies he saw in his youth. -Y! News

It was probably a funny and exciting experience for him. Like my first time riding a boat on Pasig River.

The pedicab driver would have been elated if he knew Tarantino. Well, if he knew him then he’s lucky.

My brother’s birthday pics (3 Comments)

I added new plugins in just say goodbye and this blog. I tried the AJAX Comments plugin. It worked, but my test comment didn’t show up right away until I refreshed the site.

The plugin is pointless for me. XD; Live Comment Preview doesn’t work for me either. Other than new plugins, I converted one of my old MT themes to WP. I haven’t come up with a good layout for this blog, so I decided to do that. The default layout is still “Listening to the Music.” You can change the layout using the theme switcher in the sidebar if you’re already tired with this. I don’t recommend switching to the default and classic themes right now. They still need tweaking.

The other layout took me almost 2 days to work on. Sheesh~ The inverse question mark gave me a headache.

We’re done watching Death Note: The Last Name an hour ago. Gawd, I’m so behind! Haha~ Anyway, I enjoyed the movies a lot. The second movie’s long, but it wasn’t draggy and there weren’t any unnecessary scenes like some known movies. I hope you’re getting me.

When I saw Toda Erika (as Amane Misa), I thought, “I’ve seen this girl before.” I checked DramaWiki and, yes, I’ve really seen her before… in HYD2. Goodness, I hated her in HYD2. But she was so cute and awesome in DN!

WTF. I’ve totally forgotten her rotten character in HYD2. Haha~ I ♥ her now. (Who’s got LIAR GAME!?!?)

She needs a little, little, little fat though.

DN and DN: The Last Name are great movies. For those who haven’t seen them, go watch it! But I guess everyone’s seen them already.

Because I thought it’s about time (1 Comment)

I still have a number of things to do, but I thought it’s about time I blog about what’s been going on with me lately. I still haven’t stopped my habit of not blogging for so long and suddenly making a long-as-a-novel post to bore the heck out of you guys.

Anyway, here goes…
My thesis groupmates (except Kristal) stayed for a night last Thursday. We were able to finish up to the methodology part. We wouldn’t have done until that if I hadn’t kept them from playing billiards.

I told them they could play as long as we get the objectives and methodology done. Since we were all sleepy, none of us got to play. Haha~

Sylvan and my dad emailed me the references and other stuff to add to our proposal. The deadline’s tomorrow. Fuck, and I thought I only need to do 2 reports today. That makes two out of three reports due tomorrow. Ugh~

I’m finally done with OJT last week. :3 Yay! I’m glad Wally attended with me. At least I have less to worry about. I was so pressured that morning because of him. I think he woke up on the time I called him up. That was about 8AM. Our meeting time was 9AM. The engineer was pissed off. He told me I should leave Wally because he doesn’t seem interested with the OJT while I, on the other hand, was working my ass off. When we arrived to our meeting place, he gave him a light sermon about his being tardy. I couldn’t defend him anymore. The engineer’s right anyways.

He should show a bit of consideration. The engineer’s got work to do too. We’re not even paying him to take charge of us.

Our travel time to the site was longer than our inspection. *sweatdrop* We took a couple of cool pictures which I might be posting tonight or after I’m done with the school reports.

A friend of Mac and Reyton wants to join our band. Her name’s Mimi. Jackie’s still our vocalist though. I will let just Mimi in the band because it’s nice to have 2 female vocalists. X3 For the meantime, since Jackie’s still unavailable, she’ll be singing solo. We had a li’l jamming last Saturday, so we were able to hear her singing skills. She sounds like Burigs.

She even likes the songs Burigs likes. Whoa~ Haha~

She’s not a big reggae or ska fan, so our songs are kind of new to her. She needs to be familiar with our playlist before she starts practicing with the band. I hope EJ and the trombone player will be available next week ~~and that they will show up!~~ for practice.

I finished watching PoT the other day.

I should have finished watching the series back then. The episodes after the US-Japan tournament has awaken the yaoi-fangirl in me. I haven’t been reading much yaoi lately, you see. Oh, except Junjou Karen.

There are obvious hints of InuixKaidoh, TezuFuji, and (my favorite) TezuRyo in the last 10-ish episodes of the series. :O It’s also good that I finished it when the OAV is already showing.

I wasn’t too thrilled when Ryoma was to play in the US Open. I know that it’s a great opportunity for a serious tennis player, but nothing beats being with your teammates. When Ryoma got back from the US Open and just in time for the Nationals, it made me happy. I’m loving the OAV. ♥ ♥ Episode 7 is freaking HILARIOUS! *roflmao*

Last Thursday, Mac and I went to NBC Engineering Office is Makati Cinema Square. Engr. Balmori (his wife is a pamangkin of my mom) recommended that office for our OJT. I went there, hurrying, only to get rejected. They preferred that we go there everyday. If we do that, we’ll be done in a week and the OJT requirement for our class will be totally pointless.

Our OJT requirements are very different among other schools. Our OJT isn’t even a separate course. It’s only a class requirement. I explained to the lady how our OJT goes, but she didn’t understand (nor even tried to). So I made it somewhat obvious that I don’t care about their office anymore. They should be grateful that we wouldn’t be bothering them everyday. Also, our school doesn’t allow us to go to offices that give allowances.

We only need their time. I’m bugging my dad to look for construction sites through his contacts. I plan to go to where me, Wally, and Balao can relate to. We’re EnSE students after all. We have’s a groupmate who’s CE student though. I kind of dislike him because he seems arrogant. I guess it’s only the way he looks. It’s too early to tell anyway.

He asked for my number after we talked with Engr. Balmori. He said he knows of a site we can go to.

The High-neck Crop Jacket (the first thumbnail) may seem a bit weird, but I like how it is different among the usual crop jackets. Hehe~ Then, the 50s-style top… Who wouldn’t like that!? It’s sexy. I ain’t sexy. Not only am I wishing for that top, I also wish I’m sexy to wear that!

Classes were shitty yesterday. I was very late for Construction Project Management class. When I got there, my classmates told me that Engr. Balmori will arrive by 2:15PM. *gah* Fortunate of me for not being late. But trying to take that 15-minute walk in 5 minutes, walking under the extreme heat, and carrying a heavy bag almost killed me.

Then in Irrigation class, our report was doomed when we couldn’t open our Powerpoint presentation. Mark used an OpenOffice program, but I didn’t have that in the laptop. We just showed our MSWord document in fullscreen.

Also I never got to do our assignment. Mark didn’t get to do it either. We were worried over our report. I got pissed off that damn assignment. The teacher said she would check it if we answered it in our notebooks. A sheet of bond paper isn’t a notebook, my oh-so-smart classmates!

I was surprised they passed it. Marco, who I even had to bring my very thick and heavy Engineering Wastewater book for some time ago, didn’t even ask me about it. I know we got to worry for our own, but I want to believe that my kindness will not go unrewarded. Be it the same or not. I fear I’m going to fail that subject due to poor class participation even though I worked on that damn report. I doubt our techer knows that’s my share of work.

The sucky thing about Globe DSL is that you have turn it off then on everyday. Unlike pldtDSL, the modem’s off only when electricity is temporarily out.
